A few days ago I found a giant praying mantis that was about 5 inches long. It was brown with a green stripe on its side. I looked it up and I found that it was a Chinese praying mantis.
Hi, Julian. Chinese mantids were first brought from China to the U.S. in 1898 because it was thought they were beneficial insects. After not seeing it for a few days, I saw it yesterday (Sunday) on the large butterfly bush in the back yard. I still haven't seen the male praying mantis in about a week. I hope he's happily eating juicy bugs in preparation for mating season!
Where is the praying mantis? Can we see him?
