Mystery Bird

Today me and my friend went to a nature center in hartsdale. We were looking for owls. When we got to the lake it looked like the path because on top of the ice their was snow. The only reason we knew it was a pond was because it had a stream running through it. When we left the pond to go back I saw a bird that had a white belly and its wingspan was probably from my feet up to my chest! I assumed that it was an owl.

  1. Hey, Julian. I really wish I had been fast enough to see that bird. Owls are known to roost there, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were an owl. There's another place I've been told owls roost -- great horned and saw-whets. I've never been there -- it's in a place called Pelham Bay Park. I want to check it out and see what the terrain is like, especially in the snow, since yesterday it was really hard walking in the lumpy snow. I'm hoping you can go with me. Also, when you come back to Hopke, I want to try out my night-vision binoculars up in the Burke. Maybe some night after dinner (but not too late) we can try them out. Cecilia
